Local Color   by Cynthia Robins       Sunday, September 8, 1991

THEIR DISTINCTIVE WEARABLE WARES ARE PUSHING THREE BAY AREA DESIGNERS INTO THE BIG TIME.

They are creative, personable, enthusiatic, ambitious, enterpreneurial. And they’re hot. Otherwise, the following three Bay Area-based designer have nothing at all in common. Karla Hour born in Taiwan and trained in Japan, specializes in cutting-edge women’s closing. Tabra Tunoa, a transplanted Texan and ex-hippie street peddler, has perfected the art of global-village collage with her mystical, ethnically inspired jewelry. And Zaino Mizani, at 29, is establishing himself as the Gauguin of menswear, imbuing his clothing for the monied gentleman with a palette of outrageous and unexpected colors.

Each designer is becoming known, nationally and internationally, yet each has chosen to live and work in San Francisco and environs. They are the fashion talent to watch.
